The postcards feature standard postcard backs.

“Kopec” (Slovak for “hill”) inverts the typical hierarchy of touristic imagery. Without the castle, the images become landscapes of an unremarkable hill covered in grass and exposed rock. Yet this terrain predates the medieval structure by millions of years and determined the castle’s location, form, and strategic value. The fortification adapted to the hill’s contours, was built at different heights along its surface, and merged with its geology over centuries.

By erasing the landmark, the work redirects attention to what is typically treated as background or substrate. The hill appears ordinary not because it lacks significance, but because our perception is trained to privilege built structures over geological formations. The postcard format emphasizes this conditioning; these images fail as souvenirs precisely because they show only what remains when the monument is gone.
